Sometimes the best days don’t require a packed suitcase or a long drive — just a little time set aside and the right company. This past weekend encompassed one of those days. A wonderful date day spent close to home here in Telford, filled with beautiful food, cozy spaces, and simple moments together.
We started the morning at Apley Kitchen Café, a beautifully decorated spot with such a welcoming atmosphere and fantastic service. I ordered a gorgeous latte and their avocado toast — smashed avocado with lime and crushed chillies, topped with two perfectly poached eggs, all served on toasted sourdough. Fresh, vibrant, and absolutely delicious. My husband chose the (mostly) full English breakfast, which he thoroughly enjoyed as well.

After breakfast, we wandered through their farm shop, which is well worth exploring. With an in-house butchery, fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, a lovely deli selection, and homemade cakes, pastries, and sweet treats from their onsite bakery, it’s impossible to leave empty-handed. We picked up a few goodies to enjoy at home — extending the experience just a little longer.

Later that evening, we tried somewhere new for dinner: The Huntsman of Little Wenlock. From the moment we stepped inside, we loved it. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy — the kind of place that invites you to slow down and savor the evening.
To start, we shared the sticky BBQ pork belly bites with honey-toasted cashews, spring onions, chillies, and sesame seeds — rich, sticky, and packed with flavor.
For my main, I chose the Bangkok Bad Boi burger: a chickpea burger topped with gem lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion, and spiced avocado, all tucked into a pretzel bun and served with sweet potato fries. My husband opted for the deep-fried haddock fillet with thick-cut chips and mushy peas. Both meals were excellent, and the service matched the quality of the food.

It was such an amazing day — uncomplicated, indulgent, and full of those little moments that make everyday adventures feel special. Proof that sometimes the best escapes are right on your doorstep.
